Pauwa and Kiawa
Pauwa and Kiwa
The other day a lady from the museum came to school to teach us about pauwa and kiwa. The day before we read the e-book of pauwa and kiwa so we got the most of the questions correct. There was one question that only one person knew. Then she taught us how to make a waka using drift wood skewers, material and a sand art waka. Scroll up to see some pictures of them.
This is the story of Paoa and Kiwa
Paoa and Kiwa were famous sea voyagers from a far land called Hawaiki. They came to Aotearoa in a waka that was called Horouta .On board the Horouta with them was Paoa's sister called Hinehakiriangi and his daughter Hineaua. Kiwa's son kahutuanui was also on board among others . Horouta was a very fast waka and it carried kumara to Aotearoa. It was paoa's sister's job to look after the them.Horouta hit a sandbar in ohiwa and a part of the hull and bow broke so the waka could not sail properly. Puawa and Kiwa discussed what to to do. Finally they came up with the answer. Pauwa would go and find some strong timbers to fix the waka while kiwa looked after the waka. Kiwa made some minor repairs and continued sailing along the shoreline . Kiwa found a beautiful bay with birds, animal's ,forests and sea life. While he was waiting for puawa he named it Turanganui-a-kiwa which means the waiting place of kiwa to commemorate the time he waited for puawa. Meanwhile puawa climbed huge mountan's, ran through valleys and crossed rivers in search of some special timbers. Finally Puawa came to a strong mighty tree then he used the Waipoua river to float it down to the shore line. When Paoa arrived back in Turanganuiakiwa it was celebrated by Hineakua and Kahutuanui getting married. Some of their descendents still live in Turanganuiakiwa today.

Parihaka
We are learning about Parihaka. Parihaka is a village near
Mt Taranaki. Parihaka was a really peaceful village
that believed in the Bible. One day when the pakeha wanted more land they thought why don't we send soldiers to destroy and kill them but they knew about it so they thought lets welcome them with kindness . so the chiefs said the children will dance and sing and the women will make the bread so when the soldiers came they saw the children dancing and singing. Then after that the soldiers went through the children and the women of Parihaka offered the soldiers some bread. The soldiers destroyed everything and took the people to jail. When the people got out of jail they went and rebuilt the village. The soldiers felt sorry.

What is climate change?
I found it hard to finish on time
What is climate change ?
Global warming and climate change are two different things. Global warming Is the temperature warming up . Climate change is the effects that global warming has on our climate like more storms, wind and heat and what it is doing to our planet.
Climate change has been causing some of the Amazon Rainforest fires which are so big that it has a big effect on wildlife and people that live in the rainforest .
The second main reason is that the glaciers are melting because the temperature is getting warmer. When this happens, the polar bears don’t have anywhere to live. It’s making the sea temperatures warmer and they are rising. If they rise too much they flood the islands that are low.
And the third main reason is when we use fossil fuels like petrol and gas it creates carbon dioxide. This makes the temperature warmer too. This is why we should use electric cars to prevent more carbon dioxide.
